MWC runs the Public School Nutrition Program, supporting 28 schools in Toronto and Durham. Over the past 12 years, we’ve provided children in high-need areas with nutritious breakfasts, snacks, and lunches, aiding their academic success and overall well-being.
In Canada, the intersection of child development and hunger is a pressing yet often overlooked issue, with 1 in 3 recipients of local food banks being children.
This struggle against hunger and poverty has been a cornerstone of the Muslim Welfare Centre’s mission since its inception in 1993.
In an effort to provide community-based solutions, MWC initiated the Public School Nutrition Program in 2010, serving breakfasts, morning meals, and snacks to students in high-needs areas across the Greater Toronto Area.
With nearly 1.4 million children in Canada experiencing food insecurity, and many lacking necessities like adequate shelter, MWC’s programs are crucial.
They not only address immediate nutritional needs but also contribute significantly to the children’s success and overall well-being, helping to break the cycle of poverty and ensuring a healthier, more fulfilling future for these families.
